This quarter marks five years since Remote Skills Academy was born: a grassroots initiative that has since empowered tens of thousands of young people in Indonesia and beyond to launch meaningful remote careers.
And as we celebrate this incredible milestone with the RSA team, we’re thrilled to share a major leap forward:
Thanks to new funding and growing partnerships, RSA is scaling its mission faster than ever before. With over 20,000 learners upskilled and thousands more joining each year, RSA is becoming a catalyst for economic empowerment across Southeast Asia and beyond.
From Local Roots to Global Reach
The first cohort of learners graduated from the Remote Skills Academy in April 2020, just as the world was turning upside down with the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. What started as a grassroots Bali-based impact project founded by our CEO and incubated by Livit has since evolved into a thriving movement.
Initially launched to support Indonesian youth and women in gaining the digital skills needed for remote work, RSA’s early programs focused on virtual assistance, online business management and project management.
As the demand for digital talent skyrocketed, RSA’s curriculum expanded to cover high-impact topics such as AI upskilling, content creation, project management, and digital marketing.
Fast forward to today, RSA has offered education programs, self-paced content, live workshops and mentorship to over 20,000 people across 3 continents. What unites all these learners is their shared drive to thrive in the global digital economy.
Whether they’re fresh graduates in Yogyakarta or entrepreneurs in remote corners of Sumatra, they all come to RSA with a single goal: to build sustainable, future-ready careers, access work opportunities from anywhere in the world, and live life on their own terms.
When the Numbers Speak for Themselves

Each number represents a story of someone who gained the confidence to apply for a global role, launch a business, gain financial independence, or support their family through newly acquired digital skills.
The AI Opportunity Fund in Action
Artificial intelligence is transforming industries, from healthcare and agriculture to finance and design. And while AI creates exciting opportunities, it also presents risks for workers who aren’t prepared.
Recent research shows that nearly 1 in 4 new tech job listings now request AI skills. Even more telling, the 2024 Work Trend Index Annual Report found that 71% of employers prefer candidates with AI skills over more experienced ones who don’t have them.
Despite this shift, millions in emerging markets like Indonesia are still excluded from the AI upskilling conversation.
That’s where the AI Opportunity Fund comes in.
RSA has recently secured USD 200,000 in new funding led by the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN) in partnership with Google.org and the Asian Development Bank, and is launching an 18-month hybrid program to provide AI literacy and digital training to 10,000 end-beneficiaries across Indonesia.
This program offers more than tutorials on how to use AI tools. It teaches the critical thinking, adaptability, and digital confidence needed to apply these tools in real-world settings, from remote jobs and freelance work to community-led initiatives.
Because the future of work should be equally accessible to people born in Bali or Banjarmasin as it is in Berlin or Boston.
RSA’s upcoming programs will combine online learning and in-person sessions in major Indonesian cities including Jakarta, Bandung, Bali, Malang, Surabaya, and Yogyakarta. Learners can also continue accessing courses via an LMS platform, keeping the learning experience borderless and flexible.
The celebration of RSA’s five years of impact reminds us that real change comes from collective effort.
